3 Ways to Earn Entries for Awesome Prizes Throughout the Day

This year’s tournament theme, "Light the Way," encourages us to share kukui (light) wherever we go, illuminating the path for others and inspiring those around us to do the same.

In addition to prizes awarded to 1st and 2nd place winners in both Gold and Silver divisions, here are three other ways you can earn entries for awesome prizes:

  1. Team Spirit: Light the Way!

Show off your team’s spirit by dressing according to our “Light the Way” theme. Here are some examples to inspire you:

    1. Bright and Bold: Wear vibrant and bright colors like yellow, orange, or white to reflect positivity and energy.

    2. Radiant Patterns: Wear light-themed designs such as sunbursts, stars, or rays.

    3. Creative Accessories: Add eye-catching accessories like sun-themed headbands or bright-colored socks.

These are just ideas to get you started—let your creativity shine! Teams that embrace this theme will be entered into a special raffle drawing for a team prize!

  2. Talent and Discovery Booths: Engage with our Talent and Discovery Booths and complete the activities to earn raffle tickets. The more you participate, the more entries you’ll receive!

  3. Light the Way Award: Tournament directors will be on the lookout for participants who exemplify exceptional sportsmanship and positivity throughout the day. Those who stand out will be entered into the exclusive "Light the Way" Award raffle.

Explore the booths, embrace the theme, and let’s make this event a brilliant success!

The Origins of Makahiki: Honoring Tradition and Lighting the Way"

The celebration of the New Year in ancient Hawaii began with “Makahiki,” a festival that started with the appearance of the constellation Makaliʻi (Pleiades) in the night sky, usually around October. This celestial event would light the way for a season dedicated to peace, renewal, and communal harmony. The period was marked by worship, games, and cultural festivities, all in the spirit of peace and thanksgiving.

Similarly, our 2024 “Makahiki Games” draws inspiration from this tradition by celebrating community and connection, blending traditional Makahiki practices with modern day activities. Enjoy thrilling volleyball matches, talent and discovery booths, live music and entertainment, onsite food, and more!
