About us.
Nā Kukui—Tree of Lights
"Nā Kukui" is a Hawaiian word meaning "many lights".
The inspiration for our name comes from the Kukui tree,
also known as the "Candlenut" tree or "Tree of Enlightenment".
Anciently, Hawaiians used the meat and oil
from the nuts of the Kukui tree to create sources of light.
For example, torches were made by stringing together
the meat from the kukui nut, lighting it on fire,
and it burned throughout the night serving as a valuable source of light.
Similarly, we each have the ability to be
a source of hope and light in the world.
Our capacity to increase in kukui (light) grows stronger as we choose to
discover, develop, and share our God-given gifts and talents for good.
